The Pyramid Center | San Francisco, CA

Project Brief

The Pyramid Center at 505 Sansome Street is uniquely positioned as an iconic presence in the Bay Area, to be a site as a key force in introducing many young contemporary artists to Bay Area audiences, and in supporting the careers and raising the profiles of Bay Area artists in the context of the Bay Area community and its neighborhoods.

Art Assets proposes an art program entitled LocaLab 505 which refers to the local art scene and an experimental approach, and includes a year-long exhibition accompanied by a major, week-long summer event that ties directly to the theme of the exhibit.

Each yearly exhibition would focus on defining the current practices of “craft” and would focus on work in different mediums such as drawing, knitting, sculpture, sand, sound, and other media that relates to the particular art practices of Bay Area artists.

Each subsequent annual exhibit, intended for a wide audience and the Bay area community, would focus on another medium with a fun summer learning/performance event that fosters the understanding of the medium and its use.
