Paris-based artist Xavier Damon begins with instant prints produced with a Polaroid camera modified to produce incredibly vibrant colors. Damon then enlarges the images to 40″ x 48″, at which point the works transition between dream and reality, capturing an elusive moment of unconsciousness that reveals itself to the naked eye.
These gigantic photographs surprise us with Damon’s audacious plunge into abstraction that is full of palpable energy, light, and color, as well as elusive and intriguing puzzles. We wonder how Damon, who is color blind, is able to simply imagine what he wants. The subtlety and sensuality of these photographs awakens our own senses.
